Etsy fees explained, with a calculator

Etsy's fees come in layers, and they add up to more than most makers expect. Put in a price below to see what a sale costs, then read on for what each fee is.

Did the sale come from an Etsy Offsite Ad?

On ByHand

ByHand takes £0.00. Shoppers buy on your own site or shop, so we never see the sale. If that's your Etsy shop, Etsy's fees still apply there.

An estimate using Etsy's published rates at the time of writing (October 2026). It leaves out currency conversion, VAT on fees, regulatory operating fees and optional Etsy Ads. Check Etsy's fees page for your shop.

The listing fee

Every listing costs US$0.20 at the time of writing, converted to your currency. It's charged again each time the listing sells (for each one sold) and when it renews after four months.

The transaction fee

6.5% of the total the buyer pays, at the time of writing, including what you charge for postage and gift wrapping. It went up from 5% in 2022.

Payment processing

A percentage plus a fixed amount on each order, which depends on where your bank account is: for example 3% + $0.25 in the US and 4% + £0.20 in the UK, at the time of writing. Some countries also add a regulatory operating fee.

Offsite Ads

Etsy advertises listings on other sites, and when a sale comes from one of those ads it charges 15% of the order, or 12% for shops that sold over US$10,000 in a year, capped at US$100 an order (at the time of writing). Smaller shops can opt out; once a shop passes US$10,000, it can't.

Keeping more of each sale

Most makers don't leave Etsy outright: they add channels that cost less. Your own website keeps more of each sale, but you have to bring the visitors. Squarespace and Big Cartel will host one, and so will Shopify: open a Shopify shop (affiliate link). That's where a directory helps: ByHand is free to list on, takes no cut, and sends shoppers to your own site or your Etsy shop, tagged so you can see the visits in your own analytics. Questions

How much does Etsy take from a sale?
Usually around 10% of the order, before Offsite Ads, once the listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing are added up. A sale from an Offsite Ad adds another 12 to 15%.
Can I turn off Etsy Offsite Ads?
Only while your shop has made less than US$10,000 in sales in the last 12 months, at the time of writing. After that the ads are required.
What does ByHand charge?
Nothing to list and nothing on sales. The only paid options are a featured stall, which is always labelled sponsored, and a fast-track review, and neither is needed.
