Terms of use
Last updated 10 October 2026
1. Who we are
ByHand (“we”, “us”) runs this website, a directory of independent shops selling handmade work. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it. Questions: contact@byhand.studio.
2. What ByHand is, and isn't
We list shops, check that their work is handmade, and link to them. We don't sell anything listed here, take payment for makers' goods, or deliver orders. When you buy from a maker, your contract is with them, on their terms, through their own website or marketplace. Questions about an order, refunds or delivery go to the maker.
Our review is a reasonable check of the evidence a maker gives us. It isn't a guarantee of quality, safety, or that a maker will fulfil an order.
3. Accounts
- You need an account to vote, keep lists, comment, report, or list a shop. You must be 16 or over.
- Keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person, one account. Don't impersonate anyone or pick a username that misleads.
- You can delete your account at any time from your account page. See the privacy policy for what happens to your data.
4. What you post
Comments, shop details, photos, updates and anything else you post stay yours. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, show, resize and share it on ByHand (including in feeds, search and social previews) for as long as it's on the site. You confirm you have the right to post it and that it follows our community guidelines.
Everything on ByHand must be suitable for all ages. Sexually explicit or adult-only content is not allowed anywhere: in shops, photos, updates, comments, or on sites a shop links to.
5. Moderation
We filter offensive language automatically and members can report anything that looks wrong. We may hide, edit or remove content, take a shop down, or suspend an account that breaks these terms or the guidelines, with or without notice. If we take your shop down we'll tell you why, and you can reply to that email if you think we got it wrong.
6. Paid features
Featured stalls and fast-track reviews are covered by the seller terms.
7. Things you mustn't do
- Break the law, or help anyone else to.
- Scrape the site in bulk, overload it, or try to get around its security or rate limits.
- Manipulate votes or reports (multiple accounts, paid votes, coordinated reporting).
- Post spam, malware, or links meant to mislead.
8. Our liability
We provide ByHand “as is” and do our best to keep it running and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We're not liable for makers' goods, sites or conduct, or for losses that weren't a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
9. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll say so on the site before it takes effect. Carrying on using ByHand after that means you accept the new terms.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK you can also bring proceedings in your home courts.
