Sell your handmade work, free

ByHand is a directory of independent shops where everything is handmade. Listing is free, staying listed is free, and we never take a cut of a sale: shoppers buy from you on your own website, your Etsy shop or wherever else you sell.

How listing works

  1. Tell us about your shop

Your logo, a cover photo, one to eight pieces with prices, a few lines about the shop and the link where people buy.

  2. Show us the making

At least two photos or videos of the work in progress, each with a short caption: raw materials, half-finished pieces, your bench.

  3. A reviewer looks it over

We'll approve it, ask for something more, or explain why it isn't a fit. You get an email either way.

  4. Your shop goes live

Shoppers find you through the aisles, search, the noticeboard and the markets calendar, then click through to buy from you.

Why makers list here

  • Only handmade shops are listed, so you aren't buried under resellers and drop-shippers.
  • Paying for a featured stall never changes anyone's place in the rankings.
  • Post one update a month: a new collection, a market, something half made. Followers get it.
  • Add your craft fairs and markets, and shoppers nearby can find your stall.
  • See how many people viewed your shop and clicked through to buy.
  • Makers from any country are welcome. Shoppers can browse by where makers are.

Common questions

Do I need my own website?

You need somewhere people can buy: your own site, an Etsy shop or similar. ByHand doesn't take payments, so we link to it. If you'd like a site of your own, Shopify (affiliate link) is a quick way to start.

Can I list my Etsy shop?

Yes, as long as what's in it is made by you. Plenty of makers do. See how ByHand and Etsy compare.

What counts as handmade?

Things you, or a small team you work alongside, make yourselves. Tools and machines are fine; factories, reselling and print-on-demand are not. Read the full guidelines.

How long does review take?

The free queue usually takes a few days. If you're in a hurry, a fast-track review (£5) moves you to the front of the queue. It's refunded in full if we turn the shop down.

What does it cost?

Nothing, unless you choose a featured stall or a fast-track review. The seller terms have the details.
