About the shop
I'm a pyrographer which means I basically burn on to anything made from wood. My pieces have ranged from a small keyring up to a large table top. I tend to buy wooden pieces in and then burn designs and words on to that piece. Everything is burnt by hand using my trusty Peter Childs machine. My favourite genre to make is anything alternative but as I make items to order I do make more generalised items. I love to work closely with clients to make sure their order is exactly as they want it, so lots of messages are sent with photos through each stage before burning as pencil is easier to remove than something that's been burnt. Small items can be made in a day but more complex and larger pieces can take up to a couple of weeks. Also it depends on what finish is added at the end, eg a coaster may take a couple of days to make but if yacht varnish is to be added then another week could be added before finished due to drying times
A note from the maker
I originally started out doing pyrography as a hobby but friends wanted to buy some of the pieces I made. This progressed to selling a few pieces on a friend's market stall. It was then I decided to make it a proper business. I've had the nickname Shazbat for many years due to my name and my love of bats, and Designs just fitted in with what I made. I'm a 1 woman business although when a big order comes in and it's bantight deadline my OH will help where he can, but all the drawing and burning is done by me. I've tried many different crafts but pyrography is the only one that I've really loved doing. To see something develop after hours of sanding and drawing is very fulfilling. The added bonus is getting praise from customers once they have their completed order. I have a workshop but during the colder months I tend to work in the house and the shed gets used for storage. I also have dogs so it makes it easier to keep an eye on them whilst working inside, plus chickens that would be forever coming in the shed if I was there.
